Why Children Are Funny

So, we all know that Missy has some sort of relationship with God that I have not quite figured out yet? Well, here's a conversation we had today in Wal-mart. Yep, right in the Halloween candy isle.

Missy: Mom, can I get this?

Me: (No answer. I was thinking. I'm pretty spacy these days)

Missy: MOM!

Me: Huh? What sweetie?

Missy: Why don't you talk anymore?

Me: I am sorry kiddo. I am just distracted lately.

Missy: Is God pulling you different ways?

Me: Yeah, I guess so. I'm just really tired and stressed. I'm sorry.

Missy: Well, you know God was pulling me two different ways, but he finally told me the way to go.

Me: Really? Which way is he telling you to go?

Missy: He's telling me to move away so that you won't be sad anymore.

Me: Thanks Miss. Anything God is telling you for me because I can't really hear him?

Missy: Yeah. He says for you to move as soon as you can. And to wear your hair down more. He likes your hair down.

Me: (laughing)......oh that's so cute. Thanks.

Soooooooo, we continue walking. Then Missy says, "Oh and he also said if you don't start praying at dinnertime, you may not go to Heaven."

What am I ever going to do with this child? She cracks me up.

When God Calls You......

I've never claimed to be a religious person. God and I have had our ups and downs throughout life. I had a lot of tragic things happen to me over time so it was hard to keep faith during all of it. A couple of years ago, before the Tiger, Missy and I belonged to a church. We went every week. I can't exactly remember why we stopped going. But, then I started working on the weekends and church is no longer an option since I work on every Sunday. And starting next week, I will be in school at night on Mon. thru Thurs.

So, then there's Missy. This child craves to go to church. She's the only child I know around me that goes to her room to read her bible (not all the time, but it's random and cute). She has a children's bible and has been reading it for the past two years. She is constantly asking me when we can go back to church. But, I don't know the answer. I am in school for another 15 months so I'll be working weekends until then. And will it be too late then? Will she lose her interest by the time I'm available for church? What am I supposed to do? My mom watches her every Sunday while I work and she'd never take her to church. My mom is about the most un-religious person I know. But, I feel bad. It's almost as if God is calling to my child to come because she has no one religious around her and yet she still craves Him and is so curious.

My Baby Broke Herself

Well, so far the week isn't ending like I thought it would. Tiger is out of town in Colorado. Missy was heading off last night to Michigan with my friends (I have to work all weekend, yuck). It was going to be More Than A Single Mom's BIG single weekend! I had lots of plans......dinners with my cousins on Friday, a girly movie and bubble bath all alone on Saturday, and studying in peace and quiet on Sunday. However, things never go as planned when you have children............

As we were packing the car for the girls to head to Michigan, my daughter and her friend were playing on the swing set. Didn't go so well. Missy fell and hit her face on the wooden pole of the swing set. Off to the ER we went. 2 stiches on the top. 1 stitch on the bottom.

By the way, I must say.......I am gonna be a damn good nurse. There was lots of blood. A LOT of blood. I was calm the whole time. I wish I could say the same about my friend, her daughter, and Missy. They were all crying. Whew. I am glad it's over.

I guess the girly movie and bubble bath will have to be put off...............

A Summer Update Through Pictures

I owe my blog lots of pictures. This is More Than A Single Mom's summer so far -- in a nut shell. What better way to say it than with pictures??

First - There was summer fun in our backyard.......

Then there was a camping trip.......

Then there was 4th of July (my favorite holiday).........

Remember that tooth? Well, it finally came out! Bottom tooth, hard to see.

Last, but not least, Missy is turning 7! Happy birthday sweetie.

How Do I ???

HELP everyone! Missy has had a loose tooth for almost two months! Well, it's been at least a month and a half. A really long time. The girl is afraid to sit and play with it (this is her first loose tooth). To me, this is strange. I thought all kids go above and beyond to get some dough from the tooth fairy. Apparently not.

But, now I grow concern. The permanent tooth is starting to grow behind it! Ugh. I had her eat an apple last night. It's still there. I tried to twist it but my big mambo fingers don't fit well in her little mouth. I tried to take a string and just yank it out. That only hurt my ears as Missy screamed bloody murder.

What's a mom to do? I want this tooth out so she has a better chance of a permanent tooth growing in straight. Any ideas????

Hot Lava

You know your kid drives you nuts in the store sometimes. This has happened to all of us. Now, my daughter is pretty good when we are out in public. But, at 6, she sometimes forgets how to act like a normal human being.

Today, we had to go to Meijer. Oh, Mommy already spent almost $200 in groceries there on Wednesday. But, I always forget at least one thing. Even with a list. That's just who I am. Always forgetting an ingredient to something that I currently need. Even with a list. It's very annoying. And not cheap on my gas tank either.

So the Tiger falls asleep early. I take the child. Oh geez. I should've just left her with the sleeping Tiger.

We get in and from the front door all the way to the food section it's skip, skip, skip, flop, flop, flop while she's holding my hand. I said, "Missy what in the world are you doing? People are starting to look at us." Her reply? "Well Mommy I can only step on the white ones because if I step on the gray I will burn up in the lava and die." Well, darn Meijer for having gray and white tile. Not just one color.

Well, what the heck? We don't want the child dying in lava on a rainy Friday night, do we? That all would've been fine if I didn't have to hear every two seconds, "OH NO Mommy you are dying in lava. I am going to be left all alone because you didn't follow the rules!"

All I wanted was some chips for a party tomorrow I have to go to. Instead, I think I was burnt alive in hot lava about 47 times.

VItamins Cut You

This morning was an odd morning to say the least. It was a normal Wednesday. We all get up and go to school Wednesday mornings. Like a bunch of kids. It's cute.

Missy gets up and says, "My throat hurts." Uh-oh. She's sick, I immediately think. She hasn't been sick all year. We don't get our new insurance until next week. So, of course she's sick.

So I am checking her all around. She feels cool. Hmmmmm. Then she says, "Mommy I have to tell you something." Uh-oh. I think again.

She says, "Last night when you gave me my vitamin I fell asleep with it in my mouth." I said, "Ok, no big deal. But, you must chew them completely so you don't choke."

Missy says, "No mommy. It's stuck to the inside of my cheek." WHAT? So I look. It sure was. Darn thing never dissolved. I gently pull it from her cheeck, and it took a small piece with it. Poor kid.

But, it gets worse. I take a flash light to her mouth and her poor little throat has tears and cuts all through it. Nope, didn't even remotely look like Strep to me. But, what was it?

I call the pediatrician on my break during school and it's from the vitamin! Did you know that certian food left in the back of your mouth for prolonged amounts of time can tear your esophagus? Well it can. Apparently, the chemicals in the vitamin were broken down and little chunks of the vitamin rested on her throat all night, tearing the inside of her mouth.

So, basically she can't eat anything other than soft foods. Dinner was quite fun in our house tonight. And trying to get her to gargle with salt water before bed will be even MORE fun!

Bet my Wednesday was weirder than yours.

Who's The Mom?

It's been a fun weekend. Thanksgiving, Christmas shopping, laundry, a bloggy meet up, seeing Sheryl for the first time since last year (I think it was last year), more Christmas shopping, the hanging of new curtains and fans, grocery shopping, the start process of cleaning out a storage locker, and 5 days of entertaining my 6 year old. Oh, and did I mention the Christmas shopping??

A conversation between Missy and I while driving to the storage locker today:

Missy takes off sunglasses........

Missy: Where'd the sun go?

Me: I don't know. Sure got cloudy quick.

Missy: Yeah. Hope it doesn't rain. Then we can't get our stuff from storage.

Me: Oh, we'll figure out something. But, I don't think it will rain.

**About two minutes later it starts to rain/snow a tiny bit**

Missy: See Mommy, this is exactly why I always tell you to leave an umbrella in the car.

Geee......thanks Mom. Sometimes I wonder who the child is in our house.

Dear Missy

Dear Missy,

When I first found out I was pregnant, I was scared. I was too young to have a baby and not even mature enough to take care of myself. I was heavy into drugs, alcohol, and an abusive relationship. But, then I was pregnant. I made the decision to grow up and to raise you to the best of my ability. You saved me from myself. I truly believe I probably wouldn't have lived another year or two if you hadn't come along. You are my true hero. You'll probably never realize what a blessing you really were to me. Everything happens for a reason, and I was meant to grow up and be your mommy.

When you were a baby, you were as bald as can be. I am so sorry I had to work so much. But, I never realized how hard it would be to provide those diapers and daycare for you. I remember sleeping on the couch each night because you refused to sleep anywhere but in the baby swing ---- for over 3 months! I was tired, exhausted, but your little smile made it worth everything. I apologize for the horrible relationship I was in with your daddy. He never realized how important you were. I spent many nights crying and holding you tightly, wishing for him to come home. I am sure you felt my pain, but still looked up at me with loving eyes.

When you were a toddler, you freaked me out many times with your fast ability to touch everything and anything in a matter of two seconds. And you were still pretty bald. I thought you would never have long hair! During this time, we made the most courageous jump of our lives. We left that horrible life behind. You will probably never remember that horrible night and I hope you never do. But, as I held you in the back of the cop car I just prayed to God for your safety and that you come out of this ok. We left everything behind and started our new life in Indiana. And through it all, you still looked at me with those big loving brown eyes and looked to me to save you. I promised to save you and I did.

As I look at you now, you've grown into a full fledged beautiful little girl. I did everything and anything I could to give you a normal life. Guess what kiddo? WE have made it. You are healthy. You are happy. You are smart. And you are so beautiful. Last night, you came running to me to show me your report card. STRAIGHT A'S. As I cried, I told you how proud I am of you. You laughed at me for crying. I don't know if you'll ever realize JUST HOW proud I am of you. You've been through so much and you deserve those grades for how hard you have worked. I love you more than I've ever loved anything or anyone in the world. And last night it was my turn to look at you with loving eyes because you are my hero. I wouldn't be half the woman I am if it wasn't for you. Congratulations baby on your first report for the year. It's time to celebrate.

Love,

Mommy
